Katherine A. Vajda
Day job: Independent Interactive Designer & Writer
Description: Katherine A. Vajda is a Master’s student in DePaul University’s Human-Computer Interaction program. She works independently as a user experience designer and writer, primarily for small press and non-profit organizations. Kat earned her B.A. from Amherst College with an interdisciplinary major combining art, media studies, and psychology. She also received an M.A. in Convergent Media from the University of Texas at Austin. Before beginning the program at DePaul, she spent several years working for non-profits in grant writing/development and marketing.
Kat describes what she does in different ways depending on the audience. To friends and younger family she says she does “Web and interface design, usability research and testing and content development.” To older family, most of whom have never owned or used a computer, she says her work is “kind of like graphic design and market research, but not really.”
Superpower: Kat says her superpower would be “to stop time so I can get more than 24 hours out of a day.” Although she does think mind-reading would be very handy for UX.
