Brian Maggi
Day job: President, Idea Momentum
Description: Brian brings extensive experience in product development, management, and innovation to Idea Momentum’s clients. Prior to founding the firm, Brian worked with and for a wide range of corporations and agencies.Brian started his career as a research assistant for Professor Noshir Contractor at the University of Illinois studying the effects of technology on group decisions and communication for the National Center for Super Computing Applications (NCSA). After graduating, he joined the Advanced Products Group at Apple as a User Experience Engineer on the Newton.
After leaving Apple, Brian was instrumental in helping businesses and organizations craft effective strategies for harnessing the Web and emerging Internet technologies.He returned to Apple in 1996 as a Senior Marketing Manager responsible for worldwide marketing to the creative industry. He later became the Technology Manager for the entire desktop line, where he played a key role in bringing innovative products such as the iMac and iTunes to market.
Brian was one of the original founders and co-inventors of Postini, the leading enterprise e-mail security platform for which he was awarded six patents (Postini was acquired by Google in 2007).
Brian earned his Bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication with a concentration in Art and Design from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1992. He is member of BayChi, University of Chicago Innovation Roundtable, Interaction Design Association(IXDA), and the current Chair of Chi2 (the Chicago chapter of SIGCHI). Brian is an avid blogger, presenter, and writer on a wide variety of topics involving emerging technologies, and innovation. He describes his job as “helping clients tell the stories behind their products and services.”
